Launching an Application

To run your D3D application with Intel® GPA System Analyzer HUD enabled, do the following:

  1. Check whether the Intel® GPA Monitor is running in the tool tray.

    If not, start the Intel GPA Monitor from the Windows* Start menu.
  2. Double-click the Intel GPA Monitor icon Intel Graphics Performance Analyzers m icon Launching an Application in the taskbar notification area, or click it and select Analyze Application….The Analyze Application dialog will be displayed.

    NOTE

    If you are new to Intel® GPA, select gpasample.exe in the list of applications and click Run. This will run the Intel GPA Sample application with Intel GPA instrumentation active, enabling you to quickly analyze the performance.
    With this sample you can:

    • view various CPU, Microsoft DirectX*, and GPU metrics within the Intel® GPA System Analyzer Heads-Up Display (HUD)
    • create a frame capture file and analyze it in the Intel® GPA Frame Analyzer
    • create a trace capture file and then examine it in the Intel® GPA Platform Analyzer
    • verify the correct installation and operation of the Intel GPA product; especially useful should your application appear to have problems when running with Intel GPA
  3. In the Command Line field, enter the application full path. Enter any command-line options for running the application to be analyzed.

    NOTE

    In you are analyzing gpasample.exe, you can use the following command-line options to configure Intel GPA tool execution:
     - /D3D11 – to run the sample using the DirectX*11 D3D API
     - /D3D9 – to run the sample using the DirectX*9 D3D API
    You can also add more buttons to switch on/off 3D scene overrides:
     - /OVERRIDES – to change the GUI to display Toggle vsync, Toggle alpha blend, and Toggle depth test buttons. By default, the application does not show these buttons.

  4. (optional) In the Working Folder box, type the directory in which the application should run. This is useful for games that use a launcher or mission packs in a different directory than the game files.
  5. Click Run.

To open one of the recently analyzed applications:

  • Double-click the application listed in the Analyze Application dialog.

  • Select the application in the Analyze Application dialog. The application will appear in the Command Line field. Click Run.
